Irish Americans Turn Out for Tim Kaine in NYC

Irish Americans for Clinton Kaine had a packed event for Senator Tim Kaine tonight in New York City's Fitzpatrick's hotel, with Governor Cuomo, Liam Neeson and Christine Quinn also in attendance. John Fitzpatrick, the chair of the event, recalled how Bill and Hillary Clinton had committed themselves wholeheartedly in the 1990s to the successful Irish peace process. "The Irish", he said, " never forget a friend, nor do the Clintons."

Senator Kaine said Ireland is "a land of the imagination", echoing the words of JFK in Ireland in 1963 when he referred to "that quality of the Irish--that remarkable combination of hope, confidence and imagination--that is needed more than ever today."

Kaine said he always relished his Irish roots and admired the Irish, "who for so many years were the underdog, but never afraid to fight". "In this election", he said, "we are running as the underdog until we win". He continued, "in some states the polls are very close, and the polls can be wrong, so we have to make every vote count. There are two things about my political record, one good, one not so good. The good thing is that if we win on November 8, I will be 8 and 0. The not so good thing is that I win by small margins."

Kaine reminded us that the Clinton Kaine ticket is about helping the struggling middle class create a better life for them and their families, and to do this, we have to elect Democrats all down the ballot.

Saying he enjoyed campaigning, Kaine added, "However, It's hard to match the happiness of campaigning with the existential gravity of the threat our opponent presents to America."
