While continuing to leap frog back and forth between "The Mueller Report totally exonerates me" to "The Mueller Report is a total hit job," Trump went further down the road to impeachment yesterday, once again making clear his total ignorance of American Democracy and our Constitution. He bragged openly, if impeachment begins, he would at once go to the Supreme Court.

Trump knows nothing about impeachment or about the oversight function of Congress, nor does he respect our institutions and our Democracy.

He seems to think appointing Gorsuch and Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court gives him a "get out of jail" card.

Like the dictatorial strongmen he aspires to be, Trump thinks he holds our nation in his throttle.

"I DID NOTHING WRONG," Trump said. "If the partisan Dems ever tried to Impeach, I would first head to the U.S. Supreme Court."

The United States Constitution provides that the House of Representatives "shall have the sole Power of Impeachment" (Article I, section 2). And in 1993 the Supreme Court reconfirmed that when it ruled unanimously that the authority for impeachment trials resides in Congress and "nowhere else."

As Gerald Ford when he was House minority leader, said, "An impeachable offense is whatever a majority of the House of Representatives considers it to be at a given moment in history."

Similarly Trump's announcements this week, demanding White House former and current staff ignore all Congressional subpoenas for documents and testimony ("We're fighting all the subpoenas"), enlarge the Obstruction of Justice charges Trump will face when the House begins impeachment proceedings.

Remember this -The 3rd Article of Impeachment against Nixon charged him with failing "without lawful cause or excuse to produce papers and things as directed by duly authorized subpoenas issued by the Committee on the Judiciary of the House of Representatives.”

An ignorant Trump seems oblivious to the fact that he continues to lay the road to his own impeachment.
